praying for missions {week 7}

For the next 30 weeks, we will pray through "30 Ways to Pray for Missionaries," compiled by Elaine Helms for the NAMB. (the full list in pdf form is available here)

Matthew 6:33

But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.

The list starts with focus because of its vital importance. Our plans, our actions, our reactions, everything is affected by our focus. We have a lot on our to do lists, both for Maisha Kamili and for our family. It would be very easy to focus on all the things we have to do.

Luke 5:15 describes great crowds gathering to hear Jesus teach and to be healed. Verse 16 says, "But he would withdraw to desolate places and pray." Following this example will help us renew our focus, especially when we are very busy.

In John 15, Jesus repeatedly instructs us to abide in him. Abiding in him, remaining in him, means our focus will continually be turned towards him as we work.

Pray that we will not be preoccupied or even distracted by the details of life, but that we would constantly seek God first. Pray that we would make a priority to follow Jesus' example in Luke 5:16 and furthermore that we will abide in Christ.
